Artist’s Statement

I am a local Tasmanian artist and a member of Robin-Mary Calvert’s Art Group, Mistress’ Apprentices. I have been involved in many art exhibitions in Southern Tasmania.

My works are produced with great appreciation and love for our spectacular natural surroundings. I was born in the UK in 1959, and in 1963 my family migrated to Tasmania. We were stunned by the wild beauty of Tasmania and spent a lot of time exploring it. I am particularly fascinated by our skies – always changing, full of so many different and beautiful effects. I find myself also irresistibly drawn to the sea, having spent such a lot of time near it, in it and gazing at it, as a child! Whilst working on my paintings I think a great deal about how lucky I am to live here, and many happy memories accompany me!

I also owe my inspiration to time spent living in our spectacular Huon Valley, and to my sister Diana Trace, and our late father, Leo Weaver, both wonderful artists and my brother Hugh Weaver who is a photographer who shares my artistic passion and also constructed this website on my behalf.

Through my paintings I seek to share with you the value of our environment, and the importance, in this ever-changing world, that as many of us as possible appreciate that which is so easily taken for granted in our day to day lives.

I use a tactile approach in my work - using my fingers, the palette knife and rag (particularly in the sky and sea) to create a range of textures and effects. Using my fingers makes me feel very much a part of the scenery I am creating, and assists in transferring my emotional response to life and our world to the canvas. My works feature a range of styles that I have personally developed over the years which I describe as a modern Romanticist/ Impressionistic approach, with abstract influences.

I hope you enjoy my work. If you are interested in commissioning me to craft something personal for you, please contact me via the contact link on this website.

Thank you for your interest.
